you're killing me, rivers

Yeah. I made another theme tumblelog. This one’s more for me, though I of course want you to follow it. It’s basically a place for me to complain about the modern incarnation of Weezer and keep track of all the acts of increasing lunacy carried out by Rivers Cuomo.

If you like Weezer, my complaining might bother you, unless you have a sense of humor about the band. But if you miss the Weezer that made The Blue Album and Pinkerton, or just enjoy goofy-ass musicians, then you might like this thing.

(A tip of the cap to YOU’RE KILLING ME KANYE! who obviously inspired it.)

nevver: The Phillyist
Is it crass? Yes. Can it possibly be construed as slightly homophobic? Sure. Does it potentially inspire hard feelings between one set of fans and the other, creating unnecessary hostility which could lead to verbal and possibly physical confrontation? Absolutely.
But dammit, sports fandom, sometimes you make me chuckle.

A Memo to Rivers Cuomo:

Text

In the future, please limit the use of the following phrases in the lyrics of your songs:

  • “going out with my homies”
  • “party with my friends”
  • “grooving on the dance floor”
  • most uses of the word “hot” to describe a female
  • “transcend our pain”
  • anything suggesting “peace” and “love” are “the answer” to “the damage in your heart”
  • references to Vitamin Water
  • “zip a dee doo dah, zip a dee yay”
  • anything that rhymes a word with itself
  • “I feel a deeper peace […] that is penetrating”
  • “peace, shalom / peace, shalom / peace peace”
  • “I’ll be here to sex you”
  • “I am running through the meadow and the sun is shining on me”
  • “boo yah”
  • “bodies be all up on my behind”
  • all of “Heart Songs”

Thank you, Mr. Cuomo, for your unlikely cooperation. Also, we hear that you’ve been collaborating with Katy Perry on a song for her new album. This, too, is an unfortunate occurrence. Please guard against this in the future, or at the very least replace Ms. Perry with Lady Gaga, which will infinitely improve the entertainment value of such a collaboration. Again, thank you for your time. We await your not-gonna-happen compliance.

Sincerely,
A Suicidal-Since-Make Believe Fan

In Which I Hate The Yankees

Text

How did my hatred for the Yankees reach this point? I have an actual bloodlust for the Yankees. I want them utterly destroyed. And not just the Yankees, but all of New York. The entire state of New York. I want the entire state of New York gone. Now. I am willing it into the cornfield right now, as we speak. If New York disappears in the night, either neatly or in a smoking crater, you may come calling on me, for the sheer force and power of my hatred will have apparently removed it and its citizens from this earth. This is a scientific possibility.

Blame the Yankees. Fuckin’ assholes.

Radiohead, “You and Whose Army?”

I’m not much of a Halloween person, but I do enjoy a healthy dose of the “spooky, scary” — just not in the same ways that most people seem to. I refuse to watch modern horror films (modern meaning “within the last 30 years”) but I do love classic, Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, MST3K-movie horror. The good stuff, the stuff that requires a little imagination and fantasy and which doesn’t show you the insides of people’s bodies.

And that’s why I’m posting this song today. It’s not technically a scary song, but watch your horror movie of choice, then turn out the lights and play this song. If the intro alone doesn’t make you tingle, you have no imagination. By the time he gets to

We ride tonight
We ride tonight
Ghost horses
Ghost horses

I can practically see the ghouls triumphantly shrieking out of the ground. Maybe my sense of scariness and Halloweeniness is a bit obtuse, but there you have it.
