You don’t have to be pretty. You don’t owe prettiness to anyone. Not to your boyfriend/spouse/partner, not to your co-workers, especially not to random men on the street. You don’t owe it to your mother, you don’t owe it to your children, you don’t owe it to civilization in general. Prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked ‘female’.

A really nice summary of, and response to, a lot of the sexist bullshit going around in the gaming world of late. (You’ll probably need to embiggen it.)

Sometimes I have the time and patience to get from an idea to a fully fleshed-out, penciled, inked and coloured comic.

Sometimes I don’t.

The Big Sexy Problem with Superheroines and Their ‘Liberated Sexuality’

I have a tendency to scoff at certain things that people “make a fuss” about. Sexualized females in comic books is one such thing. I mean, there’s technically nothing wrong with a sexy comic book lady, and most of them are pretty badass, right?

Well, uh, I’ve kind of changed my mind after reading this article. I’m not anti-Sexy Ladies (I mean, Power Girl is still my number one comic lady, after all) but the situation is a lot worse than I thought it was, particularly at my beloved DC Comics. I concede my wrongness.

Major props to Laura Hudson for opening my eyes with this great article.
